Certificate in Information Security and Assurance Management
Spring 2008
Computer security is known to be a very fast-growing field; currently there are too few professionals to fill the positions available. The shortage of information assurance professionals in the federal government alone is projected to exceed 37,000 within the next six years. Graduates with associate degrees can be hired as entry-level internet security, network, systems or support administrators, and are prepared to integrate new security skills into their responsibilities, and serve on the security and assurance teams of various enterprises.
This new certificate option includes topics such as concepts of network security (topologies and access methods, protocols, standards, security controls, threats, and counter measures), management of access control systems, security policy design and implementation, operations security, web security management, disaster recovery strategy and implementation, ethical and legal aspects of information security.
Upon completion of this certificate, the student will be able to:
- Write and administer security policies and procedures.
- Create and establish a disaster recovery plan.
- Direct personnel to secure data during an incident response.
- Lead countermeasures for a data intrusion.
- Manage all security personnel.
